Pakistan’s First Competitive Multiplayer Gaming Weblog
We have finally shifted the core of our efforts till now to gamerpk.com! I am really glad to be posting this after taking some serious time out to setup this blog on blog.gamerpk.com, using WordPress CMS engine. Blog setup and import with WordPress is not really a hassle, rather it works very smooth. However a little knowledge about some HTML and PHP code wouldn’t hurt. I intend to add more content and diversify the blog into a more news-site like thing, for which I need help and a lot of time. But for now, I am just posting news that I can get my hands on.

My friend BlooDLust pointed me to this article about how the 4Kings‘ legendary WarCraft 3 team came to an end on SK-Gaming website. The article starts off by explaining how a good team organizer in Tillerman was able to handpick success out of Europe. But after some player and manager changes, 4K was not able to cope with the pressures of modern day gaming and many mistakes along with many issues that they over looked were the reason of their sad demise. Read the entire write-up here.
SeaMeWe-4 owned and run by Flag Telecom had been severely damaged near Egypt, where some of the company owners even termed it ‘cut’ at one point on Wednesday, has again been damaged to a critical level. Although this incident does not effect Pakistan directly, but in the near past there has been an incident of this sort where the entire Pakistani nation was left without the internet for a days, and it was this very cable.
Wateen WiMAX broadband hasn’t received any accolades in it’s few months of starting up. Something I suspected long ago, would be a poor start to their services. Sadly that has what has happened.
Wateen (and Motorola) promised to Pakistani consumers the WiMAX (IEEE 802.16e) technology in a 2005 roll-out which was then claimed to be the biggest roll-out in the world. WiMAX is a broadband protocol/standard that delivers on the wireless medium. It uses a normal transmission tower like a cell phone tower, and at the user’s side there is a signal receiver. This receiver can then multiplex the signal onto various other mediums (TV, telephone, LAN).
From the people that have used it, it hasn’t really made a good impression with them. The company as a setup might be impressive in their marketing and after sales department, but the user experience thing still needs to be worked upon. From the comments posted on the Islamabad Metroblog things are not so good. User complain of frequent disconnections, slow speed and erratic behavior. Which, honestly speaking, is not surprising it’s a wireless technology. Learn a lesson from your cell provider! Forget internet.
Is Wateen WiMAX a viable gaming solution? Not right now, but since things might settle down, they will figure themselves out. Which is an optimistic way of looking at it. I would suggest you to ask around your neighborhood if anyone subscribing to Wateen’s services is having any problems. Ask about their comments too – because problems are usually localized and not the same for everyone.
I read some positive and negative comments and rants here.
FAST-NU Lahore manages to hold this awesome gaming gala every year that happens to be the biggest in Lahore. This year too they are going for it with a total of $1000 prize money up for grabs! G3n.X started off in 2005 in a wave of tournaments that took the scene by storm, and today it’s known for it’s size and the toughness of competition.
G3n.X like many other institute based gaming events is solely run by avid gamers from those institutes who are gaming fanatics. They themselves have a huge amount of techinical and logicistical knowledge about holding such massive tournaments, and are up to date with the latest formats and rules of various games.
This time round the G3n.X people intend to give out $500 dollars to the winners and runners of DOTA and CounterStrike (CS 1.6). With other games receiving a handsome amount too. Tournaments like these not only encourage entrepreneurship amongst students, it gives them new career paths and career goals. Some of them want to become game developers, some of want to be a part of a gaming clan in the future, or some simply want to be a good gamers.
Details of the tournament are being formulated and will gradually be posted on their website. The contact information is posted on their website for any queries anyone might have! They also have an Orkut community forum up and running. Their email is g3n.x@softec.org.pk.
If you’d like to share any information or thoughts regarding the tournament, please don’t hesitate to email us at,
I can’t wait for this. By the way, this fine piece of artwork you see above seem to be their tournament logo.

Vivendi, of which Blizzard Entertainment is a division, released its 2007 earnings revenues today, revealing that the World of Warcraft publisher raked in $1.2 billion (€814 million) in revenue last year. WoW’s 10 million large subscriber base contributed the lion’s share of the Vivendi Games division’s $1.5 billion take (€1.018 billion). Blizzard’s revenue was up 58% year over year which can be attributed to strong sales of World of Warcraft: The Burning Crusade and a subscriber boost of 2 million people.
Vivendi pointed to lower earnings from its Sierra label, with sales of Crash of the Titans, Spyro: The Eternal Night, F.E.A.R. Perseus Mandate, Timeshift and World in Conflict as “not as strong as the 2006 release slate.” Let’s hear it for World of Warcraft, ladies and gentlemen!

Just posted this on the Counter Strike Pakistan community (on Orkut). Hope to see a positive response,
Hi Everyone,
This is zEro, your very own community founder, hope you are all doing well. I was looking for people who are interested in some high profile freelance news, scene and general CounterStrike coverage for and from Pakistan…
I have a blog going-on on gamer.pk on which I and another friend of mine post mostly about WarCraft, StarCraft, WoW, CoD, and related news. I feel we are very shorthanded at the moment and would prefer a few volunteers who have some interest in online journalism and gaming. As time approaches, this blog will mature into something bigger (we’ll discuss that later) and eventually a better opportunity for anyone who wishes to join in the fun and post on this blog.
The candidate will be expected to post atleast 2 ~ 4 times a week, regarding general CS news, clan news and updates, tourneys, random thoughts on the game, strategies and players. The writer’s contributions will add up to his portfolio as an online journalist and it would make it easier for him to launch himself from there onto bigger sites like GotFrag, FiringSquad, or even SK. What would help? A good command on English, some previous experience in this work, good manners and familiarity with the gaming scene.
If anyone of you has interest or has a question, message me on Orkut, message me here or visit the Contribute section of the blog. Or if you have any interesting ideas to share, go right ahead.
This message is open for all CounterStrike lovers and we are not all snobbish about talking to you (like other some other websites out there)
All the Best,
gamer.pk
